Getting Started:

In order to get started building a website, I'll need the following things:

  1. Register your domain name:
Your domain name should be short, easy to remember, and easy to say over the phone (I always have trouble with marverde...). A quick google search will return more extensive information on "how to choose a domain name". I typically recommend either Enom or 123cheapdomains as domain registrars.
  2. Prepare content:
Either a flowchart or an outline is a good starting point to establish the pages & sections of the site. Typically the content I receive can be anything from a printed brochure to a complete flowchart & text documents for each page. Images are best supplied in .jpg or .png formats. Logos & other artwork are best supplied in .eps or .ai formats. Basically send me whatever you have.
  3. Establish layout requirements & preferences:
Existing marketing collateral is a good starting point, also a few links to other websites that you think are done nicely help.
  4. Establish functionality requirements:
Depending on the complexity of the site/application, this can be as simple as a list of fields for a contact form or more likely the functionality will be established from conversations and meetings and will result in a complete and detailed online specification. The spec can be reviewed and changed before development starts.
